Abstract: The Oregon pink shrimp (Pandalus jordani) fishery expanded greatly after 1975 followed by a decline in landings after 1978. This intensified attention on the population dynamics of this resource, and led to increased efforts to model yield and recruitment relationships. Population modelling techniques which estimate sustained yield, mortality, growth, recruitment, and other parameters of interest to fishery managers typically require a considerable data set. These data needs may be extensive , requiring proper organization before use, or intensive, requiring pre-processing into summary statistics before use. Data which may be used to characterize the Oregon pink shrimp resource and the fishery operating upon it come from many sources , and reflect a number of different organizational formats. Some of this information , such as length- frequency , age and sex composition, and number of shrimp/pound, has been compiled into at least first-level summaries (Zirges, Saelens , & McCrae , 1981). Some regional summarization of catch and. effort data has also been published (various state and Pacific Marine Fisheries Commission data series). But available data summaries, whether for catch or biological data, are typically reported by jurisdiction, ie state or state area of landing, and describe statistics in those areas rather than by stock unit. While this type of information can be used at the stage of stock identification, population modelling itself may require data organization on a stock unit basis. This report provides a complete and summarized compilation of catch, effort, and biological sampling data for the pink shrimp resource fished off Oregon and northern California. It includes all catch from that stock wherever landed. A discussion is also included on how the stock unit, for which the summary tables were compiled , was chosen. An effort was made to organize the summary tables in a form readily usable as input to various yield and recruitment models and other population dynamics calculations. Related biological information is also included in tabular or graphic form for quick reference when applicable to specific models. The report is organized into four major segments: (1) Identification of the major pink shrimp stock unit harvested by the Oregon fishery, (2) summaries of biological statistics for pink shrimp caught off Oregon, (3) development of stock unit area catch in pounds to catch in numbers of shrimp by age group, and (4) summarization of fishing effort, in hours trawled, in the stock unit area.
