Abstract: The "Troll Salmon Management" program was established in FY 1967 as a joint state-federal activity concerned with research and management of Oregon's ocean salmon fishery. It was continued through FY 1968 with federal participation authorized as in FY 1967 by provisions of the Anadromous Fisheries Act, PL 88-304. The program conducted in FY 1968 had a general format characteristic of this investigation since its inception with federal support increasing the amount of work done. The format includes: (1) annually conducted activities such as collection, processing and analyzing of catch statistics, and age composition and mark sampling information; and (2) periodic shorter term studies on subjects such as the origin and movements of salmon in the ocean, the amount of mortality suffered by salmon released after incidental capture, and the reduction of this mortality resulting from the use of barbless hooks. A detailed presentation of the activities undertaken in FY 1968 follows.
