Description
- Abstract: During the summer of 1966, a large reduction occurred in
Pacific ocean perch (Sebastodes alutus) landings in Oregon.
Two explanations were expressed by industry on the effect
the Russian fleet was having on our landings: (1) the Russians
have caught all the fish; (2) American boats could not fish
safely in the vicinity of the Russian fleet. Through the
use of PL 88-309 funds, several cruises were made to determine
if either one or both of these explanations were
valid. The areas surveyed had produced large catches of
Pacific ocean perch in the years immediately prior to 1966.

hour in areas for which catch rates were known for previous years.
2. To obtain length frequencies from the above areas.
