Description

Abstract: During the December 1960 - November 1961 period the activities of the otter Trawl Investigations were similar to those reported in the December 1959 - November 1960 progress report. The field activities were as follows: (1) interviews with otter trawl and pink shrimp fishermen from Astoria to Brookings; (2} sampling of landings of Dover sole and pink shrimp at Astoria and limited sampling or petrale sole and pink shrimp landed at Coos Bay; (3) sampling-at-sea trips on trawl boats out or Astoria; and (4) Dover sole tagging off Stonewall Bank out of Newport and off the Columbia River Lightship. Laboratory work consisted of: (l) an analysis of the 1960 landing records of Dover, English, and petrale soles and Pacific Ocean perch combined with interview data; (2) compiling trawl landing records by month by area or catch for the Pacific Marine Fisheries Commission; (3) processing and analysis or the samples taken from landings of Dover sole, petrale sole and pink shrimp; (4) analysis or the data obtained on sampling-at-sea trips; (5) processing and partial analysis of the data obtained from tag recoverees of the English and petrale sole tagged in the Cape Lookout-Cascade Head area in 1959, the petrale sole tagged off Heceta Bank in 1960, and the Dover sole tagged o££ Stonewall Bank and the Columbia River Lightship in 1961; (6) preparation of data for reports to the Research Division, the Oregon F1sh Commission, the PMFC, and the International Trawl Committee; (7) several reports were submitted for publication; and {8) some time was spent on editing manuscripts and administrative duties at the Astoria Laboratory.
