Description

Abstract: The Troll Salmon Management Program was established in FY 1967 as a joint state-federal activity concerned with research and management of Oregon's ocean salmon fishery. It continued with federal participation authorized by provisions of the Anadramous Fisheries Act, PL 89-304, through FY 1971. The program conducted in FY 1971 had a general format characteristic of this investigation since its inception. This includes (1) Annually conducted activities such as collecting, processing, and analyzing catch statistics, age composition and mark sampling, and (2) periodic short-term studies on subjects such as the incidence of nonlegal salmon in commercial catches, the hooking mortality associated with releasing salmon and the reduction of mortality resulting from the use of barbless hooks.
