Description

Abstract: The Ocean Salmon Management Program is responsible for obtaining fishery and biological data, analyzing these data and recommending appropriate management regulations for the ocean salmon fisheries. Management regulations are designed to achieve the optimum use of the salmon resource on a sustained basis. Activities pursued during FY 1982 included the sampling and analysis of catch and effort statistics, chinook age composition, mark recovery data, and coded wire tag data. Short-term work was done on the evaluation of a troll season extension for chinook salmon off southern Oregon, and the collection of random coho scales for a Research Section scale study to separate hatchery and wild coho. The sampling program for 1982 was upgraded by adding a person on the north coast and south coast to help supervise and assist the troll and recreational samplers in their respective areas.
