Abstract: Major fluctuations in the availability of albacore tuna (Thunnus alalunga) to commercial fishermen operating in the northeastern Pacific Ocean occur annually and seasonally. These fluctuations in availability may possibly be the result of variations in the environment. The scientists of several agencies are examining oceanographic and meteorological data collected from various sources to determine the nature and magnitude of the changes that have taken place in the oceanic environment in the eastern Pacific. By comparing environmental changes with variations in albacore fishing success it may be determined whether these changes are responsible for fluctuations in seasonal appearance, distribution, and relative abundance of albacore. This is a compilation of catch and fishing-effort data for Oregon albacore landings which may be compared with the information compiled on the oceanic environment. The collection of these data was carried out as a routine part of the state research program on marine fisheries. The compilation and publication was accomplished with the financial assistance of the U. s. Bureau of Commercial Fisheries, California area.
