Description
- Abstract: The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) has routinely sampled Pacific ocean perch (Sebastes alutus) and other rockfish (Scorpaenidae) landings for species composition since 1963. Even though Oregon's reported (nominal) Pacific ocean perch (POP) landings included many rockfish species, these landings of POP have been reported by ODFW as Pacific ocean perch. Furthermore, the small percentage of S. alutus found in reported other rockfish landings has been reported to and by ODFW as other rockfish. To correct the record, we have produced the following tables summarizing our best estimates of annual actual S. alutus and other rockfish landings and also annual species composition by PMFC statistical area. Species composition estimates of 1963-71 landings were based on an Informational Report by Niska (1976).
