Description

Abstract: The Ocean Salmon Management Program is responsible for obtaining fishery and biological data, analyzing these data and recommending appropriate management regulations for the ocean fisheries. Management regulations are designed to achieve the optimum use of the salmon resource on a sustained basis. Activities pursued during FY 1981 included the sampling and analysis of catch and effort statistics, chinook age composition, mark recovery data, and coded wire tag data. Short-term work was done on the evaluation of a troll season extension for chinook salmon of southern Oregon, and the collection of random coho scales for a Research Section scale study to separate hatchery and wild coho. The format of this report was changed slightly. Both 1980 and 1981 data are incorporated in this report to put it on a current basis. However, the 1981 troll data should be considered as preliminary at this time.
