Description
- Abstract: In early 2004, teh Elk Creek Watershed Council identified an undersized steel culvert that was blocking fish passage to more than a mile of salmonid habitat on private land on Dodge Canyon Creek. The Council approached the land owner and obtained permission to seek fudning to replace the culvert. Two additional culverts on a side tributary, blocking 1/2 mile of additional habitat, and a partial barrier on Thompson Creek, were also also identified for removal. All culverts were slated for removal at one time by a single contractor in hopes of saving money. Final removal and construction of the culverts was completed on August 28, 2006. The landowner will maintain the culverts for 10 years, with periodic inspection by the Elk River Watershed Council. The Elk Creek Watershed Council will take photos of the projects for at least two years, and ODFW will conduct fish presence and spawning surveys to document fish use for two years.
