Description
- Abstract: A large wood restoration project was completed along approximately seven miles of Cedar Cr (tributary to the lower Siletz River). 460 pieces of wood were placed in the stream. Wood was placed at 26 sites (with multiple jams at some sites) with an average of 66 pieces/mile or 18 pieces/site. Pre-restoration habitat surveys were completed during summer 2008 and consisted of standard ODFW AHI inventories. Post-restoration habitat surveys were completed summer 2011. A post-restoration evaluation report was completed February 2012 and is located in OWEB's files.
-
- Purpose: The treatment reach was found to be limited in both winter and summer rearing habitat for juvenile coho. More importantly, gravels were not being retained over time resulting in a net loss of spawning habitat. The project partners chose to treat the stream with large wood to increase complexity and in turn reverse the processes allowing for substrate losses.
