Description
- Abstract: Josephine and Jackson Counties are located in the southwestern part
of the state. The famous Rogue River Valley is the nucleus of the area.
Most of the Jackson County lakes are in the Cascade Mountains. Josephine
County has a few lakes in the Siskiyou Mountains at the south end of the
county.
The lakes included in this plan are either reservoirs or back country
lakes. Some of the reservoirs were natural lakes but have been enlarged with the construction of a dam; others were formed by flooding a low
meadow area. The fisheries differ as to locality and type of lake. The back
country lakes have rainbow and brook trout; the large reservoirs are
stocked with rainbow, cutthroat, and brook trout, and one reservoir has
kokanee salmon. The warm-water lakes and ponds support populations of
bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. We have attempted
to include are those existing and potential bodies of water that provide
or could be developed to provide significant recreation at economically
feasible costs.
