Description
Abstract: General time of year (split out in bi-monthly increments) that a particular life-stage and/or behavior of a specific species and run of fish occur in a specific geographic area (generally 6th field HUC or larger). Source information is documented within each spreadsheet or biologists provided their professional opinion of the activity intensity percentages for all salmonids and other species.

Purpose: The purpose of the data is to: 1) inform the dates for inwater work windows to minimize impacts on fish species; 2) inform the development of water quality standards to protect the sensitive life stages of the fish species present within the designated area.

Time Period of Content: 2003 - 2023
Geographic Extent: Oregon
Status: Final
Use Constraints: These data are classified as Level 1 "Published" and are thus available to the general public. There are some inconsistencies in the data that are worth noting. Data are split out by ODFW fish district with Marine and Columbia River areas brokenout separately. Lamprey information has been embedded into some "district / program" data and it is also organized by ODFW watershed district. Where lamprey data exist within the fish district data, those take precedence over the watershed district level lamprey data. The life stage timing information is organized by fish district and each waterway area (as described in the Inwater Work Guidelines) has one corresponding spreadsheet. Each spreadsheet is typically split out into two separate worksheets, one for anadromous fish species and the other for resident fish species. There may be exceptions to the standard formatting where lamprey data are either embedded with the anadromous our resident worksheets (or stored in stand alone spreadsheets). At least one district (Upper Willamette) has multiple species broken out into separate tables within a single worksheet (vs. listed out together in a single table). Some of the peak use, lesser use, and presence symbolization can vary between districts. Each waterway area ID corresponds to a polygon found in the Inwater Work Period GIS Boundary Dataset.
Format: Excel

Data Quality Information
Lineage-Source: Numerous field sampling methods are employed in the collection of data to support of a variety of agency business. While some of those efforts are intended to determine the timing of fish use by life stage, most efforts are intended to support other objectives such as making population estimates. Despite the indirect relationship, much of the fish sampling that ODFW conducts can be used to inform the life stage timing information found in these data.
