Abstract: This handbook explores the invertebrates that spend part or all of their life in the sloughs, streams and springs of the Columbia Slough watershed. The history of the watershed is given, then a discussion of the importance of macroinvertebrate monitoring. Detailed instructions for collecting macroinvertebrates are given, as well as a chapter on data interpretation. Descriptions, pictures, and a brief natural history of many aquatic invertebrate species found in the slough are presented. References. The appendices contain volunteer monitoring protocols and field forms, as well as known and potential sampling sites in the watershed. 48 pp.
