A New Interactive Website to Help You Find Fishable Waters
--by Stacy Carpenter
Have you been looking for a good fishing place to take your kids?
How about a peaceful fly-fishing location? Interested in knowing what
species of sport fish are in that stream? Oregon
Fish Finder has the information you need!
Over the years, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), as well as
many other sources, have provided documents to help guide you to a fishing area
in your part of the state. However, with information being in different forms
and different places, it has been difficult to know what type of experience to
expect without having a library of books to study. This is where Oregon Fish
Finder can help. ODFW’s Natural
Resources Information Management Program (NRIMP), with the help of
BoatEscape.com, is bringing you a list of over 450 streams, lakes, and bays to
fish in Oregon on a website called Oregon Fish Finder.
Oregon Fish Finder is an interactive website with an extensive database that
will allow you to search for fishing places by location, species of fish, or by
making a custom query. The database
will use your search criteria to display the desired water body, a list of fish
in that water, the probability of catching a fish of the desired species, directions
on how to get to the specified location, and other valuable information that has
been gathered for that water body and/or fish species throughout the state of
Oregon. The information comes from
ODFW information sources, books, articles, and other web pages, and District
Biologists from each of the nine watershed districts in the
state of Oregon will be verifying the data before
it is officially released.
Currently, the Oregon Fish Finder site is online only as a draft version, as data is still being gathered and verified by our
biologists. Accurate data will be
provided later this year. Please
check back on this website for updated
information.
Fishing
opportunities abound in this state, and we think that Oregon Fish Finder will be
a great help in making those opportunities not only memorable, but easy to
obtain as well. We hope you will
take advantage of the Oregon Fish Finder site as soon as it becomes available, and we wish you many days of happy
fishing!
