Read about the use of databases vs. spreadsheets for storing and managing data in our December 2003 Feature. We now have a link to an U.S. Army Corps of Engineers fish counts site available on our Fish Counts at Oregon Dams/Fishways page. The fish counts are from 12 dams, including: Bonneville, Ice Harbor, John Day, Little Goose, Lower Monumental, Lower Granite, Mc Nary, Priest Rapids, Rock Island, Rocky Beach, The Dalles, and Wells. November 2003 Updated timing unit data tables are now available for the Deschutes, Grande Ronde, John Day, Rogue, and Umpqua Districts. Go to our Timing Data Tables page and click on one of the Districts to gain access to the data. Did you know that Oregon's Willamette Valley is currently the home for two native species of frogs, and the one introduced species? If you need weather forecasts and road conditions information for your trip, check out our News & Weather page. FREE FISHING WEEKEND ON JUNE 7-8! Dozens of events are planned for this year's Free Fishing Weekend to give new anglers a chance to learn the joys of outdoor recreation and - with a little luck - the thrill of landing a fish. Many of the events are accessible to disabled anglers, and most events are geared toward youths. Free Fishing Weekend occurs June 7-8. Licenses and tags are not
required to fish in Oregon on these two days, but anglers must follow all
regulations for species and daily catch limits. April 2003 For April, we are featuring Threatened and Endangered Species as our Monthly Feature. See a photo collage of several listed species that occur in Oregon, and access the Threatened and Endangered Species System (TESS) for information on listed species within Oregon and the rest of the U.S. We have recently added updated Bull Trout distribution data to our Fish Distribution/Habitat GIS Data page. The data is available for downloading in coverage, shapefile, picture (100k only), and event table (100k only) format, and is provided in both 1:100,000 and 1:24,000 scales. Links to the metadata are also provided. For our your convenience, we have added a link to the Oregon Department of Transportation's Trip Check web site to our News & Weather page. The Trip Check site contains valuable travel information such as road condition reports, road cams, roadway incident maps, roadwork schedules, weather forecasts, and more. Consult Trip Check before your next business trip or recreational adventure! March 2003 The Monthly Feature for March is a map of the areas where the three subspecies of native rainbow trout occur within the state of Oregon. See if you can match up each subspecies with the correct area! We have added a new West Nile Virus information links page to our site. The 1:24K Project Completion Workshop was held on February 19, 2003 in Salem, OR. We have a list of 24K Project Data Contributors and a description of the Project's Primary Data Products available from our 24K Workshop page. February 2003 The February Monthly Feature is a Fishy Crossword Puzzle that you can play online. Test your knowledge of fishes by giving it a try! Our Tools page now includes a new Degrees, Minutes, Seconds (DMS) to Decimal Degrees (DD) calculator. A 1:24K Project Completion Workshop will be held on February 19, 2003 in Salem, OR. See our 24K Workshop page for further details. January 2003 Our 24K and 100K scale Fish Habitat/Distribution GIS Data have recently been updated. Metadata, coverages and shapefiles are available for all species listed, and pictures, status maps and event tables are available for some species. Updated Fish Habitat/Distribution Maps are now available. The maps are species and run specific, and contain both fish habitat distribution and fish passage barrier data. The January 2003 feature is a Crossword Puzzle Game that includes six questions about the state of Oregon. Answer the questions correctly and you will solve the puzzle! Our Tips for the Field page now includes a link to West Nile Virus information from ODFW. This information includes: virus facts, vectors, symptoms, and prevention.
