Description
- Abstract: The geographical area covered in this plan is the Klamath Basin in Oregon including Klamath River, tributaries to Upper Klamath Lake, and Lost River. The Klamath Basin has long been renowned for the excellent fisheries it provides. Klamath River, Upper Klamath Lake, Williamson, and Wood Rivers are noted for the large trout taken by anglers. Some of the smaller streams in the basin have exceptional fishing for smaller trout. Williamson River and Sprague River have unique fisheries for the Lost River sucker, known locally as mullet. The Lost River system and lower Sprague River provide good angling for warmwater fishes. Angler use is quite extensive throughout the basin. Native stocks are supplemented by hatchery-reared fish in many of the streams. In general, public access to the streams of the Klamath Basin is good, particularly in areas where the demand is greatest. A large amount of publicly owned land in combination with blocks of open land owned by private companies
provide this access. However, there are a number of places in the basin which are privately owned and closed to the public. In these places, where a particularly
valuable resource is under used, this plan recommends developments which will allow greater public use.
