Harvest limits are one tool used by fishery managers to limit the harvest of
a species or species group to a particular level. The need to limit a harvest
stems from one or more factors such as decreasing fish populations, escalating
harvest, uncertainty about the sustainability of a fishery, and the need to
share the harvest among fisheries or geographical areas. When a sport harvest
limit is approached or reached, inseason adjustments may be made to sport
fishing regulations in order to slow or stop the harvest of that species.

Note that accelerating toward or reaching the limit of one
species may affect fishing opportunities for other
species. Harvest estimates for each month are posted at the end of the following month.
